Sitalee pranayama works to cool you body and slow down the breath. When you're over-heated and need to "cool your jets", you can tap into a pranic pool of life with this breathing technique that effects the nervous system and increases circulation to the lungs and heart.
Yogis have used this breath to cool their bodies when they have a fever, or during really hot weather. They've also taught that this breath helps you cool anger or frustration. So the next time road rage wants to bubble up, try this cooling breath before you careen out of control.
Tutorial
Sit comfortably in a meditative posture (easy pose or in a chair).
Curl (or roll) your tongue on up on the sides and round the tongue - just as if you were making it into a mock straw with which to sip the air. Let the tongue be out naturally beyond the lips.
Inhale slowly through the curled tongue to a full inhale, allowing the breath to hit the back of the tongue and throat.
Exhale with a closed mouth through the nose.
Inhale and repeat the above two steps for at least 11 breaths, or about 5 minutes
Pointers Can't roll your tongue? (We’ve heard 10% of the population cannot). No worries! Just pucker your lips and sip/inhale air through the puckered lips. Allow the air to hit the back of the tongue and throat. Exhaling through the nose.
